X-Factor 2009 Winner

The Climb - by Joe McElderry
In my opinion, he is not the kind of singer that will wow us with singing techniques and high notes, but really carries the song in his own way naturally and full of hope.

2 700 languages spoken in the world !!!

The "invention" of language is not known except for references in the Bible. It is not known what language Adam and Eve spoke. The first mention of different languages is the reference to the tower of Babel when different tongues were bestowed.

The invention
of writing, however, is credited to the Sumerians of Mesopotamia in the 4th millennium BC. Their descendants, the Sumero-Babylonians, developed the time system that we use today: an hour divided into 60 minutes, which are divided into 60 seconds.

Today, there are more than 2 700 different languages spoken in the world, with more than 7 000 dialects, most of which are catalogued by the Ethnologue language dictionary. In Indonesia alone, 365 different languages are spoken. More than 1,000 different languages are spoken in Africa. The most difficult language to learn is Basque, which is spoken in north-western Spain and south-western France. It is not related to any other language in the world. Mandarin is the most spoken language in the world, followed by English. But as home language, Spanish is the second most spoken in the world.

Debunk '2012' Apocalypse Myths

Columbia Pictures' '2012'

The world is not coming to an end on December 21, 2012, the US space agency insisted last week in a rare campaign to dispel widespread rumors fueled by the Internet and a new Hollywood movie.

The latest big screen offering from Sony Pictures, "2012," arrived in theaters this past weekend, with a 200-million-dollar production about the end of the world supposedly based on myths backed by the Mayan calendar.

The doomsday scenario revolves around claims that the end of time will come as an obscure Planet X -- or Nibiru -- heads toward or collides with Earth.

The mysterious planet was supposedly discovered by the Sumerians, according to claims by pseudo-scientists, paranormal activity enthusiasts and Internet theorists.

Some websites accuse NASA of concealing the truth on the wayward planet's existence, but the US space agency denounced such stories as an "Internet hoax."

"There is no factual basis for these claims," NASA said in a question-and-answer posting on its website.

If such a collision were real "astronomers would have been tracking it for at least the past decade, and it would be visible by now to the naked eye," it added. "Obviously, it does not exist."

"Credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012," it insisted.

After all, "our planet has been getting along just fine for more than four billion years," added NASA.

There is another planet, Eris, floating in space. But the dwarf planet similar to Pluto will remain safely lodged in the outer solar system and it can come no closer than four billion miles (6.4 billion kilometers) to Earth, according to NASA.

Scores of Internet postings and books delve into the supposed disaster, including "Apocalypse 2012" and "How to Survive 2012."

Initial theories set the disaster for May 2003, but when nothing happened the date was moved forward to the winter solstice in 2012 to coincide with the end of a cycle of the ancient Mayan calendar.

NASA insisted the Mayan calendar in fact does not end on December 21, 2012, as another period begins immediately afterward. And it said there are no planetary alignments on the horizon for the next few decades.

And even if the planets were to line up as some have forecast, the effect on our planet would be "negligible," NASA said.

Among the other theories NASA has set out to debunk are that geomagnetic storms, a pole reversal or unsteadiness in the Earth's crustal plates might befall the planet.

For example, some myths claim the Earth's rotation and magnetic polarity are related, with a magnetic reversal taking place about every 400,000 years.

"As far as we know, such a magnetic reversal doesn't cause any harm to life on Earth," and a reversal in Earth's rotation is "impossible," NASA reassured, adding that a magnetic reversal is "very unlikely" to occur in the next few millenia.

And while comets and asteroids have always hit the Earth, "big hits are very rare," NASA noted. The last major impact was believed to be 65 million years ago, spurring the end of dinosaurs.

"We have already determined that there are no threatening asteroids as large as the one that killed the dinosaurs," the space agency said.

Silent Beauty Around Us.

As I sat at the crowded entrance area of a coffee place one day, I found a silent beauty within the incessant noise.

I saw the silent beauty in the two lovers who sat across from where I sat, oblivious to the world with their Vaio lappies, nuzzling with each other, exchanging the occasional deep gazes into each other's eyes. I heard silent beauty in the coos of a baby as her mother tried to keep her entertained in this strange, noisy place. I saw silent beauty in the thoughtful faces of strangers as they contemplated their own journey of life with a cup of fresh brew in their hands. I saw silent beauty in the senior indian gentleman who was seated next to me who offered his seat to a young pregnant chinese woman with Jusco shopping bags in both hands, as she attempted to wave off the offer, without hesitation, he said with a huge grin “I've enjoyed my daily dose of coffee anyway, so now it's your turn!” and proceeded to get up and move about, leaving the seat for her. I saw silent beauty as two mothers exchange smiley Sunday greetings and listen to each others stories of their childrens naughty rants, forming a common bond with each other even though they may not recognize their innate connectivity.

Amidst the daily scene of the mall, where the noise echoed-off the concrete ceilings and reverberated throughout the concourse filled with anxious shoppers, I was overwhelmed by an amazing silent beauty, compounded by the sweet-smelling whiff of brewed java. There was so much beauty in what many perceived as the mundane.

We are surrounded by so much beauty everyday, if only we allow ourselves to see them! To see this beauty we must simply remove negative thoughts and the blinding veil from our eyes. We must transform our minds to all goodness. Open our eyes of positive awareness and wipe away the remnants of our daily-grind slumber that gathers in the corner of our eyes and awake to this world of silent beauty!

Did you see the beauty of today, even if some parts of your thoughts were negatively focused on tomorrow's another possibly blurry day?

Are your eyes open or are you still caught within your own self-imposed slumber, blind to the silent beauty which surrounds you?

Be aware now! Be alive! Just BE!

Have a charming week ahead, my dear readers! ^_^ hehe

Keeping Your Dreams.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3246/3113581298_b2b3143ac3.jpg?v=0

There once lived a boy whose father was a poor horse trainer. His father enjoyed his job but barely made enough money to support his family. One day at school, the boy was given an assignment to write about what he would like to be when he grew up. That night, he excitedly wrote a seven-page essay, describing his dreams of one day owning a horse stud that he could breed his own horses. He wrote the essay with great care and attention to detail. He even drew a plan of the land and the house he dreamed of owning. He put his whole heart into the project.

The next day, he handed his project to his teacher. When he received it back, he had been awarded an F, and his teacher had written at the top of the essay in red, "See me after class."

The Boy stayed behind when the bell rang and asked his teacher, "Why did you give me an F?"

The teacher replied, "Your essay described an unrealistic future for a boy like you. You have no money of your own, and your family is poor. You don't have the resources to buy your own horse stud. You would have to buy land and your original stock, and on top of that, there would be maintenance costs. There is no way you could achieve this. However, if you rewrite the essay with a more realistic objective, I will reconsider your grade."

The boy went home and thought for a long time. He even asked his father what he should do. His father responded, "Look, son, you have to decide for yourself. It's an important decision, and I can't make it for you."

After a week of consideration, the boy handed in the same essay without any changes, telling his professor, "You can keep your bad grade. I'm going to keep my dream!"

Many years passed. One day, the teacher, now on the brink of retirement, took a group of thirty children to visit a famous horse stud that bred some of the most spectacular horses in the country. He was amazed when upon meeting the owner, he realized it was the same boy to whom he had given an F!"

Upon leaving, the teacher told the owner of the stud, "When I was your teacher many years ago, I was a dream stealer. For years I stole dreams from children, Luckily, you managed to hold on to yours."

The intellect says, "you'll never own a horse stud! Where will you get the money? You're wasting your time on an impossible dream. Be more realistic!"

Love-consciousness works differently. It comes from the heart. Instead of becoming bogged down in thought, it trusts. It trusts the heart.
